About

    Built by a working photographer.

Department of Vibe is a reference-matching lab. Give it a look, any look, and it brings that look onto your photograph. The one thing it never touches is the subject.

    Who is behind it

Department of Vibe was built by Joseph West, a working photographer. Not a model trained on scraped images, and not a filter pack. Every sample on this site is a real photograph he shot, developed through the same engine we hand to you.

That matters for one reason: a photographer knows the difference between a look that flatters a face and a filter that flattens it. The lab was built around that difference.

    What the lab does

You drop a photo and a reference. The reference can be a film stock, a movie still, a magazine page, or a moodboard. The engine reads the reference for its light, palette, grain, and the edge of its frame, then reconstructs that look on your photo, on your photo's own terms.

Film simulation is where most people meet us, because the search demand and the love are both there. But the lab is not film-only. Any look that can be shown can be matched.

    The promise: your subject, untouched

Because the look is rebuilt rather than painted over, the person underneath is never redrawn. Faces, poses, and moments stay exactly as photographed. That is the whole point, and it is the one rule the lab will not break.

    Who develops your photos

The same person who writes the field notes and tasting notes in our archive, and who shot every frame in the lab reports. When you read a stock breakdown here, it comes from someone who has actually shot it and developed it, not from a content mill.
